Good Old Fashioned Tearoom

Stepping through the door of the Vintage Tearooms in Chesterfield you are filled with a sense of emotion and the fuzzy warmth of nostalgia. From the union flags adorning the walls to the staff in period attire, The Vintage Tearooms isn’t just a classy eatery, it’s an experience not to be missed.

Sharon Hilton started working at The Vintage Tea Rooms eight years ago at the old premises on Beetwell Street, today she owns the business in the purpose-built café on Steeplegate.

Sharon has always worked in the food industry, working in development, production and chef. It was as a chef that she started at Vintage Tea, then five years ago the opportunity arose to purchase the business, which she did, and was starting to enjoy being her own boss when COVID struck!

The doors closed throughout the first lockdown but when things started to open up Sharon took advantage of the small business support to relocate to Steeplegate. The new business opened in March 2021 and has seen customers new and old enjoying the traditional food on offer.

“I spent five years working in Spain,” says Sharon. “It taught me to turn orders around quickly. The Spanish have a passion for food, they expect high quality and want it quickly too.

“When we moved in this was an empty white box,” Sharon explains. “Our decor is now something a bit more ‘Vintage meets Industrial’, the bespoke staircase was commissioned for the building and we’ve created a space that’s cosy and relaxed.

“People refer to Vintage Tea as their safe place, they feel comfortable with us and know the atmosphere will be relaxed and welcoming. It’s lovely to hear that people think of us in that way, and we’re always happy to chat with them.”

The menu on offer at Vintage Tea is traditional; scones, afternoon teas, hot and cold sandwiches, English Breakfast, all day brunch and salads. Their breakfast menu is extremely popular, served until midday, when the Afternoon Teas take over. They also have all the usual hot and cold drinks and a very reasonably priced takeaway menu.

The thing people love at Vintage Tea has to be the range of delicious cakes, they always have a mouth-watering selection available.

“Cakes are so important to us that we are delighted to have recently added Liza Bakes to our business and now own and run the business from the bakery upstairs in Vintage Tea Rooms, making delicious cakes and scones to order.

“Liza Bakes have always supplied us and when the opportunity came up to purchase the business I jumped at the chance,” says Sharon.

The Vintage Tea Rooms also has an upstairs  function room which can be booked for baby showers, christenings and other intimate celebrations.

“I’d also mention that we’ve held our prices and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future,” says Sharon. “Prices are rising for us all but we are keen to soak up the increases and continue to offer our products at the usual prices.”

Seems like you have no excuse not to call in!
